Summer Vacation ends tomorrow, with timing rescheduled: Check Details
After a scorching 15-day summer break prompted by an unprecedented heatwave, schools across Kashmir are gearing up to welcome students back on Tuesday, July 8.
Education Minister Sakina Itoo has officially announced the reopening, putting an end to speculations about an extension due to the soaring temperatures. With revised timings and a hybrid learning approach, balancing academic progress and student well-being.
Revised School Timings to Beat the Heat To ensure students and staff remain comfortable amid the lingering summer heat, the Jammu and Kashmir Education Department has introduced adjusted school hours.
New Timing
Schools within Srinagar Municipal Limits will operate from 7:30 AM to 11:30 AM, allowing for cooler morning sessions. Meanwhile, schools in rural areas outside municipal boundaries will function from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
The decision comes after Kashmir experienced record-breaking temperatures, with Srinagar recording its hottest day in over seven decades and the warmest June in nearly 50 years. “We are reopening schools from tomorrow in Kashmir Division and Winter Zones of Jammu Division,” said Minister Itoo, emphasizing the need to balance learning with precautions against the heat.
Online classes
Learning with Online Classes To ensure the syllabus is completed on time, the Education Department has introduced a hybrid learning model. After in-person classes, students will take a one-hour break upon returning home, followed by two hours of compulsory online classes. This initiative allows schools to maintain academic momentum while accommodating the adjusted physical school hours. Teachers have been instructed to be available by 2:00 PM to facilitate these virtual sessions.
No Extension to Summer Break Despite the ongoing heatwave and public speculation about a possible extension, Minister Itoo has firmly ruled out prolonging the summer vacation. The 15-day break, which began on June 23, was initially announced earlier than planned due to unbearable weather conditions. “The schools will reopen on Tuesday, July 8,” Itoo confirmed, clarifying that no further extensions have been granted.
