The Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme (PMSS) is a special program initiated by the Government of India to support students pursuing higher education.
Eligibility Criteria For PMSS 2025
• You must be in the first year of a professional or technical course (like engineering, medical, dental, veterinary, MBA, MCA, BBA, BCA, B.Pharm, etc.) approved by bodies like AICTE or UGC.
• You need at least 60% marks in your Class 12, diploma, or graduation (depending on the course).
• For renewals in later years, you must score at least 50% marks each year and pass all subjects in the first attempt.
• Course Restrictions:
• The scholarship is only for one course.
• Distance learning, vocational courses, or courses abroad are not covered.
• Lateral entry or integrated courses are not eligible.
• Other Conditions:
• You must apply in the first year of your course (between April 1 and November 30).
• Only two children of an ex-serviceman or ex-Coast Guard personnel can apply.
Benefits Of PMSS:
The PMSS provides financial help to make education more affordable.
• Scholarship Amount:
• Boys: ₹2,500 per month (₹30,000 per year).
• Girls: ₹3,000 per month (₹36,000 per year).
• Number of Scholarships:
• 5,500 scholarships are awarded each year (2,750 for boys and 2,750 for girls).
• 500 additional scholarships are reserved for children of state police personnel martyred in terror or Naxal attacks.
Duration:
• The scholarship is given for 1 to 5 years, depending on the length of your course (excluding internships).
Payment:
• The money is sent directly to your bank account through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). Your Aadhaar must be linked to your bank account.
How to Apply for the PMSS 2025-26
• Visit the Official Website:
• Go to the Kendriya Sainik Board (KSB) website at www.ksb.gov.in or the National Scholarship Portal at scholarships.gov.in.
• Create an account on the portal using your details (like name, mobile number, and email).
• Log in and select the Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme.
• Enter your personal, educational, and family details carefully.
• Upload scanned copies of required documents.
• Double-check your application, then click “Submit.”
• Save a copy of the application for your records.
Documents You Need
Before applying, keep scanned copies of these documents ready:
• Aadhaar Card
• Bank Passbook
• Class 12 mark sheet, diploma, or graduation mark sheets.
• Ex-Serviceman/Coast Guard Certificate: Signed by the Zila Sainik Board (ZSB) or Coast Guard HQ (Annexure-1 format).
• Bonafide Certificate
• Pension Payment Order (PPO) or Discharge Certificate
• Death Certificate: If the personnel passed away.
• Disability Certificate (If applicable).
Selection Process
The PMSS selection is based on merit and follows a priority order:
• Children/widows of personnel killed in action.
• Children of personnel disabled in action and discharged due to service-related disability.
• Children/widows of personnel who died during service due to service-related causes.
• Children of personnel disabled during service due to service-related causes.
• Children of ex-servicemen/Coast Guard personnel with gallantry awards.
• Children of serving or retired ex-servicemen/Coast Guard personnel.
A merit list is created after checking applications, and selected students are informed via SMS or email.
