Do you want to attend a prestigious university overseas but are concerned about the expense? You are not by yourself. The cost of attending an international school can seem insurmountable to many Indian students, particularly those from underprivileged backgrounds.
The SBIF Asha Scholarship Program fills that gap by providing gifted SC/ST students with lofty academic goals with a lifeline.
This SBI Foundation program offers you the chance to transform your life, not just financial assistance.
What Is the SBIF Asha Scholarship Program?
One of the main projects of the SBI Foundation, the State Bank of India's corporate social responsibility division, is the SBIF Asha Scholarship Program. It offers financial assistance for master's or postgraduate degrees at prestigious international universities, with the goal of empowering deserving students from low-income Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities. Students who might not otherwise be able to afford international education benefit greatly from this scholarship, which offers up to INR 20 lakh in funding annually (or 50% of course-related expenses, whichever is less).
Why Should You Apply for the SBIF Asha Scholarship Program?
Pursuing higher education abroad opens doors to world-class learning, global networks, and career opportunities. However, tuition fees, living expenses, and travel costs can easily run into lakhs. The SBIF Asha Scholarship Program removes these barriers by covering a significant portion of your expenses. Here’s why it’s worth your time:
• Financial Relief: Up to INR 20 lakh per year to ease the burden of tuition, accommodation, and other costs.
• Exclusive Focus: 100% reserved for SC/ST students, ensuring targeted support for marginalized communities.
• Global Exposure: Study at top-tier universities ranked in QS or Times Higher Education lists, boosting your academic and professional profile.
• One-Time Award: A substantial, no-strings-attached grant to kickstart your international journey.
Beyond the financial benefits, receiving this scholarship is a mark of prestige that can enhance your resume and inspire confidence in your academic journey.
Eligibility Criteria For SBIF Asha Scholarship
Before you get excited about applying, let’s ensure you meet the eligibility requirements for the SBIF Asha Scholarship Program. The criteria are straightforward but specific:
• Nationality: You must be an Indian citizen.
• Community: Open exclusively to students from Scheduled Caste (SC) or Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities.
• Academic Level: You should be pursuing or admitted to a master’s or postgraduate course (any year) at a premier international university listed in QS or Times Higher Education rankings.

• Family Income: Your gross annual family income must not exceed INR 6 lakh, with preference for those with incomes up to INR 3 lakh.
• Admission Status: You need a confirmed offer letter from the university or proof of enrollment.
If you’re an orphan or don’t have an earning family member, you can still apply by submitting a no-income affidavit or a certificate from a local government authority.
