Online applications are officially invited under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme "Pre-Matric Scholarship to ST Students for 9th & 10th Class" for the Academic Year 2026-27 through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).
The Directorate of Tribal Affairs, Jammu & Kashmir, has issued an official notification inviting fresh and renewal online applications from eligible Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates. Students studying in classes 9th and 10th across Government, Government-aided, and recognized private schools with valid U-DISE codes can now submit their applications on the official portal.
Key Dates & Timeline for Academic Year 2026-27
Candidates and institutions must strictly adhere to the following schedule for application submission and subsequent verification:

Eligibility Criteria
- Category & Domicile: The applicant must belong to the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category and hold a valid Domicile of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory.
- Course / Class: The student must be studying in Class 9th or 10th in a Government, Government-aided, or recognized school/higher secondary institution with a valid U-DISE code.
- Annual Family Income: Total family income from all sources must not exceed Rs. 2.50 Lakh per annum. Gross income must be calculated without exemptions.
- Bank Account & Seeding: The candidate must hold an active bank account in a Scheduled Bank that is properly linked and seeded with their identity and mobile number.
- Exclusivity: The applicant must not be in receipt of any other scholarship or financial assistance from the Government of India or the Government of J&K for the same academic session.
Step-by-Step Procedure to Apply
For Fresh Applicants:
- Download and install the NSP OTR App and the Face Authentication App from Google Play Store on your mobile device.
- Complete the face-authentication process to generate your unique One Time Registration (OTR) Number. (Candidates can also visit their nearest Common Service Centre).
- Log in to the official National Scholarship Portal (scholarships.gov.in) using the OTR number.
- Fill in personal, academic, and contact details, upload required scanned documents, and submit the application form.
For Renewal Applicants:
- Students who completed face authentication previously should use their existing OTR Number sent via SMS on their registered mobile number.
- If the OTR Number is misplaced, retrieve it using the "Know your OTR" feature on the NSP homepage.
- Log in directly on NSP, update class/marks details for the 2026-27 academic session, and submit.
Documents Required for Uploading
Note: Scanned copies must be clear and legible in PDF/JPG/JPEG format with file size strictly between 150 KB to 200 KB.
- Category Certificate: Original Scheduled Tribe (ST) Certificate issued by the competent authority.
- Income Certificate: Original Income Certificate issued by the concerned Tehsildar (along with Salary Certificate from DDO if parent/guardian is an employee).
- Bonafide Certificate: Duly attested by the Head of the School/Institution.
- Marks Sheet: Promotion Certificate / Marks sheet of the last qualifying examination.
- Fee Receipt: Original institutional fee receipt clearly displaying candidate name, date, class, and authorized stamp/signature.
- Affidavit / Undertaking: Scanned copy of an affidavit attested by an Executive/Judicial Magistrate confirming that no other scholarship is being drawn and all details provided are authentic.
- Bank Passbook: Scanned copy showing account holder details, account number, branch name, and IFSC code.
- Hosteller Certificate: If applicable, issued and signed by the competent authority.
Submission of Hard Copies to Institution
After submitting the form online on NSP, students must take a printout of the application form and submit the hard copy along with all supporting self-attested documents to the Head of the Institution / Institutional Nodal Officer (INO) within one week. The physical forms must not be submitted directly to the Directorate office.
