The Department of Posts, Ministry of Communications, Government of India, has officially released the detailed notification for the Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) Online Engagement Schedule-II (July 2026). Eligible candidates across India can submit online applications for the vacant posts of Branch Postmaster (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM), and Dak Sevaks across various postal circles and divisions.

This engagement drive offers thousands of 10th-pass candidates a secure career pathway in the postal network. The recruitment involves zero written examination, and final selections are made purely through an automated, merit-based system derived from Class 10 board results.

Salary Structure: Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA)

Gramin Dak Sevaks receive monthly emoluments calculated in the form of Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA), along with applicable Dearness Allowance (DA) and standard annual increments of 3%:

Note: Selected GDS personnel are holders of Civil Posts outside the regular Civil Services framework of the Union. GDS employees are entitled to social security benefits, including GDS Gratuity and the Service Discharge Benefit Scheme (SDBS).

Eligibility Criteria

1. Age Limit & Category Relaxation

  • Minimum Age: 18 years
  • Maximum Age: 40 years (calculated as on the closing date of applications)
  • Age Relaxations:
    • SC / ST: 5 Years
    • OBC: 3 Years
    • EWS: No Age Relaxation (10% reservation applicable)
    • PwBD: 10 Years (PwBD + OBC: 13 Years, PwBD + SC/ST: 15 Years)

2. Educational & Compulsory Qualifications

  • Secondary School Examination (SSE / 10th Class) Pass Certificate from any recognized Board with passing marks in Mathematics and English.
  • Compulsory Local Language: The candidate must have studied the official local language of the applied Postal Circle/Division up to at least the 10th standard.
  • Basic Computer Knowledge: Candidates must be computer literate to handle online portal and IPPB operations.
  • Knowledge of Cycling: Ability to ride a bicycle or operate a two-wheeler for mail conveyance and delivery duties.
  • Adequate Means of Livelihood: A mandatory undertaking stating that the candidate possesses an alternative source of income to support their family.


Post Profiles & Branch Office Requirements

• Branch Postmaster (BPM): Involves overall operational management of the Branch Post Office (BO), India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) operations, customer service, marketing of postal schemes, and conveyance management. Selected BPMs must arrange branch post office accommodation in the village at their own cost before joining.

• Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM): Handles door-to-door mail conveyance and delivery, sale of postage stamps/stationery, IPPB counter transactions, and assists the BPM in running daily operations.

• Dak Sevak: Assigned to Post Offices, Sorting Offices, Mail Transit Centers, and Delivery Units for mail bag sorting, parcel handling, stamp sales, and counter assistance.


Merit Calculation & Selection Criteria

The selection is strictly automated and prepared through a centralized system-generated merit list:


  • Marks Basis: Marks obtained in the 10th standard across all compulsory subjects are converted to percentage calculated to 4 decimal places.
  • Grade/Point System Conversion: For mark sheets having grades or Grade Points (GP/CGPA), a standard multiplication factor of 9.5 is applied by the system (e.g., Grade Point 10 = 95%, Grade Point 9 = 85.5%).
  • Tie-Breaking Rule: In cases where two or more candidates obtain identical aggregate scores, priority is determined based on date of birth (older candidate ranked higher) followed by an established demographic priority sequence (ST Female/Trans-woman > SC Female/Trans-woman > OBC Female/Trans-woman > EWS > UR > ST Male > SC Male > OBC Male > EWS Male > UR Male).

  • Recent Passport Photograph: JPG/JPEG format, file size between 30 KB and 100 KB, recommended resolution 320×400 pixels, plain white/light background.
  • Signature: JPG/JPEG format, file size between 20 KB and 100 KB, recommended resolution 300×120 pixels, signed with black or blue pen on plain white paper.

  2. Click on New Candidate Registration and verify your active mobile number and email ID using OTP.
  3. Fill in your basic personal credentials, Class 10 board roll number, passing year, and generate your login password.
  4. Log in using your unique Registration Number and proceed to the Apply Online section.
  5. Select your preferred Postal Circle and target Division, fill in subject-wise marks, and set post preferences based on your local language qualification.
  6. Upload clear scanned copies of your recent photograph and signature as per prescribed specifications.
  7. Review the detailed application preview, pay the online fee (if applicable), and submit your application before the closing deadline of 21st September 2026 (17:00 Hrs).
