PMSSS Scholarship Scheme 2026: Online Registration, Eligibility, & Complete Guide

Prime Minister's Special Scholarship Scheme (PM-USP SSSJKL) for J&K and Ladakh Students

The Prime Minister's Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS) 2026, implemented by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), has officially commenced its preparatory phase for the academic session 2026-27. This prestigious merit-based scholarship aims to empower the youth of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh by providing full financial support to pursue undergraduate degrees in top colleges across India, outside their home Union Territories.

Important Update for 2026 Session

AICTE and UGC are actively expanding the seat matrix for the 2026-27 academic calendar. General stream admissions will strictly require colleges to have a NAAC Grade of 3.0 or above, be in the Top 100 NIRF Rankings, or feature NBA accredited professional courses to ensure top-tier education for the beneficiaries.

PMSSS 2026 Slotted Distribution & Financial Benefits

Every year, a total of 5,000 fresh scholarships are granted. Along with tuition fees paid directly to the institutions, every selected student receives a uniform maintenance allowance of Rs. 1 Lakh per annum (disbursed in installments) to manage hostel, mess, and books expenses.

Stream / Course Type Total Seats Academic Fee Support (Max) Maintenance Allowance
General Degree (BA, BSc, BCom, BCA, etc.) 2,070 Upto Rs. 30,000 / Year Rs. 1 Lakh / Year (All Streams)
Professional Courses (BTech, Nursing, BPharm, Arch) 2,830 Upto Rs. 1.25 Lakh / Year Rs. 1 Lakh / Year (All Streams)
Medical Streams (MBBS, BDS, or equivalent) 100 Upto Rs. 3.00 Lakh / Year Rs. 1 Lakh / Year (All Streams)

Basic Eligibility Criteria

  • Domicile: Must be a permanent resident/domicile holder of the UT of Jammu & Kashmir or the UT of Ladakh.
  • Education: Must have successfully completed Class 12th (10+2) from JKBOSE, CBSE, or a recognized board located within J&K/Ladakh, or completed a 10+3 Diploma for Lateral Entry spots.
  • Income Limit: Family's total annual income from all collective sources must not exceed Rs. 8 Lakh per annum. An authentic Income Certificate issued by a Tehsildar or a competent higher authority is mandatory.
  • Exclusion: Students who secure independent admission without participating in the centralized AICTE PMSSS online counseling rounds (except for valid national-level exams like NEET, JEE, or CLAT in specified institutions) will not be eligible.

Documents Checklist for Registration

Before filling out the online application form, make sure to scan and save the following clear documents:

✔ Domicile Certificate of J&K / Ladakh
✔ Income Certificate (Current Financial Year)
✔ Class 10th & 12th Mark sheets
✔ Aadhaar Card
✔ Valid Category Certificate (if applicable)
✔ Scanned Photo & Signature

How to Apply for PMSSS 2026

  1. Online Portal Registration: Visit the official AICTE J&K Scholarship portal. Register by filling in primary academic numbers (Note: JKBOSE or CBSE roll numbers require their respective prefix codes as notified on the live dashboard).

  1. Form Submission: Login with your generated credentials and fill out personal, family income, and academic detail forms. Upload the required documents in prescribed formats.
  2. Document Verification: Take original documents and photocopies to your nearest designated Facilitation-cum-Document Verification Centre (FDVC) in your division (Jammu/Kashmir/Ladakh). Your profile will not enter the merit list unless verified here.
  3. Choice Filling: Once verified, choice filling options will open on your student dashboard. Select your preferred national colleges and courses strategically based on previous year trends.
  4. Seat Allotment & Joining: AICTE releases merit-based seat allotments over multiple consecutive rounds. Candidates must freeze or float seats and report online to lock their final admission.
Crucial Warning: Students who are already availing any other central or state scholarship schemes (including any portal under the National Scholarship Portal - NSP) are completely barred from applying for PMSSS. If a candidate is found holding dual scholarships at any point, AICTE reserves the absolute right to forfeit both admission and financial benefits instantly.
