About the Scheme

The Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship (CSSS), a component of the PM-USP Yojana, is awarded by the Ministry of Education, Government of India. It provides financial assistance to meritorious students from economically weaker sections to manage their day-to-day expenses during higher studies.


Eligibility Criteria

  • Academic Merit: Students must be above the 80th percentile in their respective stream (Science, Commerce, or Humanities) in the Class XII Board Exams.
  • Family Income: Total parental/family income must not exceed Rs. 4.5 Lakh per annum.
  • Course Type: Only regular degree courses are eligible. Correspondence, distance learning, and diploma courses are not covered.
  • Institution: The college or university must have a valid AISHE Code.

Scholarship Amount

Level of Study Amount (Per Year)
Graduation (First 3 Years) Rs. 12,000
Post-Graduation / 4th & 5th Year (Professional) Rs. 20,000

How to Apply Online

Applications are accepted online only through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). Follow these steps starting June 2026:

  1. Visit www.scholarships.gov.in.
  2. Complete the registration and verify your details using the DigiLocker facility.
  3. Ensure your bank account is linked to your Aadhaar, as payments are made via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
  4. Track your application status using the PFMS portal or the NSP Application ID.

Renewal Requirements

To continue receiving benefits in subsequent years, students must:

  • Maintain at least 75% attendance.
  • Score a minimum of 50% marks in annual exams.
  • Maintain good conduct (no complaints of ragging or indiscipline).
