As of July 11, 2025, students, parents, and educators in Jammu & Kashmir are adjusting to the latest changes in school timings, as announced by the Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK). 

This update, effective from Monday, reflects a thoughtful revision to accommodate the region's unique needs. 

What’s Changing with School Timings?

The government has introduced new school hours for all private and government schools across the Kashmir Division. 

For schools within Srinagar’s municipal limits: Classes will run from 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM. 

For schools in Srinagar District and other areas of the Kashmir Province: The timings are set from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

This adjustment aims to ensure a balanced academic day while considering local conditions and student well-being. The directive emphasizes strict adherence, and any deviation will be taken seriously by the authorities.  

Why the Change? 

The decision to revise school timings comes after careful consideration by the education department. Factors such as weather patterns, student safety, and the need for a consistent learning environment likely influenced this move. By setting clear hours, the government hopes to streamline operations and support better attendance and focus among students across the region. 

Ensuring Compliance The Directorate of School Education Kashmir has made it clear that all concerned institutions must follow the new timings strictly. 

 

For students in Srinagar’s municipal limits, the day starts a bit earlier at 8:30 AM, ending by 2:30 PM, giving them some afternoon time for rest or extracurricular activities. 

Meanwhile, those in other parts of the Kashmir Division will begin at 9:00 AM and finish by 3:00 PM. Parents can plan their schedules accordingly, and schools are expected to communicate these changes effectively to avoid any confusion.
