Jammu & Kashmir Election Results 2024: The National Conference (NC) and Congress alliance has clinched a majority, paving the way for government formation in Jammu and Kashmir. The BJP secured 29 seats, while Mehbooba Mufti's PDP managed three. NC chief Farooq Abdullah confirmed his son, Omar Abdullah, as the next Chief Minister.
Electoral Commission data reveals a 63.45% overall voter turnout across all phases. The first phase saw 61% participation, the second 57.3%, and the third 68.72%.
In this multi-party contest, the NC-Congress alliance faced off against the People's Democratic Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as the other major contenders.
This marks the Union Territory's first assembly elections in a decade, and the inaugural poll since the revocation of Article 370 in August 2019, which had granted special status. Voting for the 90 assembly seats occurred in three phases: 18 September, 25 September, and 1 October.
Today's results will determine the political fate of heavy weights including ex-ministers Tara Chand, Muzaffar Baig, Taj Mohiuddin, Raman Bhalla, Basharat Bukhari, and Sajad Lone. Other key candidates include NC's Omar Abdullah, J&K BJP chief Ravinder Raina, Congress' Tariq Hamid Karra, Apni Party's Altaf Bukhari, CPI-M's Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, PDP's Iltija Mufti and Waheed ur Rehman Para, and Congress' Ghulam Ahmad Mir.
Jammu & Kashmir Election Results Live: Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to social media on Tuesday to praise the Farooq Abdullah-led National Conference for their 'commendable performance'.
"These elections in Jammu and Kashmir have been extraordinary. They mark the first polls since the removal of Articles 370 and 35(A) and saw high turnout, demonstrating people's faith in democracy. I applaud everyone in Jammu and Kashmir for this achievement," he stated.
Jammu & Kashmir Election Results: Amit Shah remarked that democracy has been revived in the Kashmir valley, where Congress had undermined it in the 1987 assembly polls.
Jammu & Kashmir Election Results: Shagun Parihar defeated veteran National Conference leader and former minister Sajad Ahmed Kitchloo. She is one of 27 BJP candidates who won on Tuesday, and among three women elected in Jammu and Kashmir.

"If you waste money on exit polls or spend time discussing them, you deserve all the mockery and ridicule that comes your way. I had good reason to call them pointless a few days ago," he posted on X.

Jammu & Kashmir Election Results : The Congress party's individual performance seems to have reached its lowest point, with only one of its 29 candidates securing a win in the Jammu region. Notable leaders, including two working presidents, faced defeat.
Jammu & Kashmir Election Results : Union Minister Jitendra Singh praised the BJP's performance in the northern UT and stated that decisions about 'future steps' would be made after meeting with the MLAs.
"It's a hung assembly. The BJP's performance was unprecedented. It's a recognition of our work and inclusive approach. We'll decide on further steps after consulting the MLAs. The trend of Congress-mukt Bharat has continued in J&K," he remarked.
Jammu & Kashmir Election Results : AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal shared a congratulatory message on Tuesday as the party secured its first seat in a fifth state.
"Hearty congratulations on the impressive victory of AAP candidate Mehraj Malik from Doda against the BJP. You fought the election brilliantly. Congratulations to the entire party for having an MLA in the fifth state," Kejriwal said in a Hindi post on X.
Jammu & Kashmir Election Results : CPI(M) leader MY Tarigami has clinched the Kulgam seat in south Kashmir for the fifth consecutive time.
Jammu & Kashmir Election Results : People's Conference chief Sajad Gani Lone narrowly won the Handwara constituency on Tuesday.
"It's a significant victory. We've won...I urge the Centre to stop experimenting...I believe they should grant statehood and allow the region's people to live peacefully...We'll focus on development," he stated.
Jammu & Kashmir Election Results : Seasoned Congress politician Choudhary Lal Singh lost to BJP candidate Darshan Kumar in his traditional stronghold of Basholi in Kathua district. Election Commission data shows Kumar defeated him by 16,034 votes.
Lal Singh has now lost three consecutive general assembly elections to Union minister Jitendra Singh in 2014, 2019, and 2024. In the last Lok Sabha poll, the Union Minister led by 14,000 votes in the Basholi segment.
Jammu & Kashmir Election Results : Former Jammu and Kashmir Deputy CM and BJP leader Kavinder Gupta suggested on Tuesday that the National Conference would 'oust' Congress from its poll alliance.
"We've won 90% of seats where Congress' performance was below 10%... I think they (NC) will remove Congress... Regardless of who becomes CM, the main goal should be J&K's welfare," he remarked.
Iltija Mufti, daughter of PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, lost the Srigufwara-Bijbehara seat by 9,770 votes. JKNC leader Bashir Ahmad Shah Veeri was declared the winner.
Jammu & Kashmir Election Results : PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti congratulated the National Conference on Tuesday afternoon as victory seemed certain. She also said the Centre should learn from the decisive verdict and allow the government to function.
"We'll play the role of a constructive opposition," she added.

Jammu & Kashmir Election Results: Awami Ittehad Party candidate Abdul Majid Banday from Handwara assembly constituency trails by 13,761 votes. On Tuesday, Banday remarked, "We received strong public support as elections are happening after ten years," as reported by ANI.
People's Conference president Sajad Lone maintains a narrow lead of 896 votes against Chowdry M Ramzan in this particular seat.
