PM Cares scheme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for children on 29th May 2021.The aim of this initiative is to support children studying in class 1 to 12th and have lost both of their parents, guardian due to Covid-19. This scheme provides holistic support system to all the eligible students until they turn 23 years.
The PM CARES for Children Scheme 2024 aims to provide these orphaned children with long-term, comprehensive care and protection by offering health insurance, financial support until they turn 23, and educational empowerment. With the help of this program, children who were affected by the COVID-19 epidemic and lost both of their parents, legal guardians, adoptive parents, or a surviving parent will be able to complete their education from Class 1 through Class 12.
Eligibility Criteria
The eligibility criteria for this PM Cares Scheme 2024 are mentioned below:
1. The scheme is applicable for Children who have lost both of their parents or guardians due to Covid-19.
2. The children below the age of 18 years are eligible for this PM Cares Scheme 2024.
3. Only children with indian citizenship and residing currently in india, are eligible to apply.

PM CARES Scheme Benefits:
The benefits provided under this scheme include:
• The PM CARES for children scheme 2024 provides funding for the education of children.
• Monthly stipend at the age of 18 years
• A total amount of ₹10 lakh on 23 years of age.
• The District Magistrate, with the help of the (CWC), will rehabilitate the child within their extended relatives.
• If the family or relatives are unavailable, unwilling, or unfit, the child will be placed in foster care, or appropriate Child Care Institutions, according to the Juvenile Justice Act.
• The children above 10 years,can also be admitted in boarding schools like Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Netaji Subhash Chand Bose Awasiya Vidyalaya, Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya, or other schools.
For children younger than ten years old:
• As a day scholar, admission will be granted to the closest school (Government, Government-aided, Kendriya Vidyalayas, or Private).
• As part of the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan, children in government schools will receive two sets of free uniforms and textbooks.
• Section 12(1)(c) of the RTE Act waives tuition expenses for private schools.
• Should a child be unable to receive these benefits, the PM CARES for Children Scheme will pay fees in accordance with RTE regulations.
The program will also pay for the price of notebooks, textbooks, and uniforms.
For Children aged eleven to eighteen:
• If residing with extended family, the DM will guarantee admission to the closest Kendriya Vidyalaya, government-aided, private, or government schools.
• In accordance with the terms of the system, the child may also be enrolled in a residential school, such as: Sainik School; Eklavya Model Schools; Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya; Netaji Subhash Chand Bose Awasiya Vidyalaya; Navodaya Vidyalaya, etc.
• During the child's vacation, the DM will make arrangements for lodging at a CCI or another appropriate location.
• The PM CARES for Children program will pay for the child's fees and uniforms as well as textbooks and notebooks if they are unable to get these benefits in accordance with RTE regulations. Encouragement of Higher Secondary Education :
• If the beneficiary is unable to obtain interest exemption under current Central or State Government initiatives, the interest on the loan would be charged.
• The child will receive assistance in obtaining an education loan for professional courses or further education in India.The PM CARES for Children Scheme will pay for the loan's interest. As an alternative, recipients may be eligible for scholarships in accordance with guidelines established by a number of ministries, including the Department of Higher Education, Tribal Affairs, Minority Affairs, and Women and Child Welfare. The National Scholarship Portal will assist recipients in gaining access to these awards.
Application Process of PM Cares Scheme 2024
The application process for the PM CARES for Children Scheme is user-friendly and easily accessible .
• Eligible children or their guardians must first register on the PM CARES for Children portal.
• Fill in the online application form with accurate details.
• Upload the required documents.
Document required:
• A Covid-19 death certificate of the parents or legal guardians.
• Aadhaar card or birth certificate of child.
• Proof of guardianship, if applicable.
PM CARES for Children Scheme 2024 Scholarship Distribution:
• The beneficiary will be directly provided funds in their bank account( DBT).
• The amount will be transferred once in an academic year usually in the beginning of an academic year.
• Students need to have their bank account linked to Aadhaar number.
• The scholarship amount will be distributed directly to the recipient 's bank account through DBT mode.
